Microbial Genomics and Proteomics | |
---|---|
Course Description | This course addresses theoretical and practical issues in microbial genomics and proteomics. It covers bioinformatic theory and methods for assembling, annotating, and analyzing microbial genomes, with a focus on evolutionary theory and comparative analysis. Topics include sequence database searches, sequence alignment, phylogenetics, functional inference, and metabolic prediction. The course also explores applications in microbial populations and communities, including population genomics, metagenomics, metaproteomics, and metatranscriptomics. |
Recommended Books | 1. Edwards, D. J., and Holt, K. E. (2013). Beginner’s guide to comparative bacterial genome analysis using next-generation sequence data. Microbial informatics and experimentation, 3(1), 1-9. 2. Li, H., and Homer, N. (2010). A survey of sequence alignment algorithms for next-generation sequencing. Briefings in bioinformatics, 11(5), 473-483. |
Course Learning Outcomes | After completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Understand microbial genome sequencing strategies and gene identification methods. 2. Analyze microbial genomes using sequence alignment and phylogenetic techniques. 3. Predict protein structure and analyze microbial communities using metagenomics. 4. Apply genomic tools to study microbial population genetics, evolution, and metabolic reconstruction. 5. Explore transcriptomics and proteomics in microbial research. |
